嶺南盆景基礎知識

附石盆景：是作者將樹巧妙地依附在石頭上面讓其生長、造型，使樹與石自然地融為一體，使岭南盆景更古樸生動，更出神入化，更具自然美。
石頭的選擇：由於附石盆景講求自然、巧妙、趣緻、古樸等，所以在選用石頭時要注意重石頭的形狀、石種、石質、石色……等等。一般來講最好挑選那些近乎於倒三角形並稍為修長的石頭較好。因為這種形狀的石頭配起樹來比較好看，也較易成景，況且，樹從石頭的高處飄垂而下時更能表現那種險峻、瀟灑。

石種方面：可以使用英石、吸水石、鍾乳石、蠟石等。最好選擇直紋的石，因為直紋的石在造型時比橫紋的石來得更容易。附植時樹根更可自然地順紋而下，並可藏於石縫之中，使作品更神奇。石質方面，只要不易鬆散斷裂，並較易彫啄造型便可。石色可選擇白色、米黃色、黑白混色、黑色、灰色、紅色等等。通常淺色比深色好，原因是淺色的石更能突出樹的美態，最忌是綠色的石塊。

樹種的選擇：附石盆景的常用樹種有：榆樹、朴樹、山桔、福建茶、羅漢松、山松、勒杜鵑、雀梅、紫薇、黃楊、垂柳、火棘、金彈子、紅果、荔枝、石榴、細葉榕……等等。


Basic Knowledge of Lingnan Penjing

Selection of Stones: As Attached Stone Bonsai / Penjing emphasizes natural, ingenious, exquisite, and rustic qualities, attention should be paid to the shape, type, quality, and color of the stones. Generally, it's best to choose stones that are close to an inverted triangle shape and slightly elongated. This shape of stone complements trees well and is easier to create a scene with. Additionally, when the tree cascades down from the higher part of the stone, it better expresses the sense of danger and elegance.

Types of Stones: Stones such as Ying stone, water-absorbing stone, stalactite stone, and wax stone can be used. It's preferable to choose stones with straight grain, as they are easier to shape compared to stones with horizontal grain. When attaching plants, the roots can naturally follow the grain and be hidden in the crevices, making the artwork more mysterious. As for the quality of the stone, it should be firm and not prone to looseness or breakage, and it should be relatively easy to carve. Stone colors can vary, including white, beige, black and white mix, black, gray, red, etc. Generally, lighter colors are preferred as they better highlight the beauty of the tree. Avoid using green stones as they are the least desirable.
Selection of Trees: Common tree species used in Attached Stone Bonsai / Penjing include elm, boxwood, mountain orange, Fukien tea, pine, juniper, azalea, quince, bougainvillea, purple leaf plum, boxwood, willow, firethorn, Chinese pistache, hawthorn, lychee, pomegranate, ficus microcarpa, etc.
